Artist's Statement

I came to my artistic endeavours late in life. My art reflects both my African heritage and my life as a woman in Africa. Part of this influence was gained when I worked beside my older sister to produce dyed fabric. A ‘patchwork' art form is depicted in many of my paintings today. At times I use actual family documents, patchwork effects of dyed fabrics, and other images from my West-African and Canadian experience. My textured, visual memories are to uplift the spirit and offer hope. I enjoy exploring different media for expressing myself in my art.
