William Kayo lives in Garoua, Northern Cameroon. He became interested in drawing at an early age and is largely self-taught. He studied briefly at the Institute of Fine Arts in Mbalmayo where he perfected his technique and engaged in a personal search that led to the sudden burst of colour that illuminates his canvas in an allegory of hues and harmonious tones. The artist seeks spontaneity, and gives his works a hint of apprehensible reality.
He has had many exhibits in Cameroon and more recently has been exhibiting in France, Norway and the United States. His works are represented in Cameroonian and foreign collections in France (President's residence), Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Chad and United States, among others.
With each painting I move towards the unknown carving through space as I follow my wanderings while trying to find an imprint, a presence that transcends time.
A work is more than its physical form, it often begins with a speck which becomes a line, straight or curved, then, the well-ordered lines burst into a harmony of colour.
