The gallery presents its Caribbean collection in a group show with artists originally from various Caribbean islands. Six artists bring the perspective of their cultural heritage to bear in their presentation of memory, nostalgia and abstraction.
The diversity of the works helps us appreciate the distinctiveness and some similarities between the islands. Rosslyn Berot-Burns presents images and symbols that are evocative of Trinidad and island life in general. Julio Ferrer’s urbanscapes of Cuba are cluttered with a diversity of people and the ubiquitous classic cars. Tamara Natalie Madden conjures memories of rural working-class Jamaica with colourful mixed media pieces. Originally from Haiti, Leonel Jules and Pascal Smarth produce abstract works. |
