In an exhibit of over 20 new paintings, Nahúm Flores presents mixed media pieces that excavate his memories on both a personal and historical level. Flores draws on historical events and his personal experience as a displaced person to create dense, layered paintings that speak of the human condition. His technique is a complex process that includes organic pigments, polymer acrylic and combines photo imagery and found materials. The results are delicate pieces of ceramic like pieces infused at times with humour and always with hope.
Born in Honduras in 1974, Flores was forced to leave by himself for Mexico at age 14. Later he entered the US as a migrant worker and eventually migrated to Canada and pursued his desired to be an artist. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2001. Since then his work has been exhibited widely in Canada and internationally. Flores was the recipient of the Corporate Purchase Award at the 2008 and 2011 Artist Project in Toronto.
