Spence Gallery celebrates its 2nd anniversary on June 15th

Twenty artists, fourteen exhibits, six countries in two years. It's time to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of Toronto's only art gallery that specializes in contemporary expressions of Caribbean, Latin and African culture. To commemorate this event, Spence Gallery will present a group show featuring four gallery artists and introducing three new artists.

Located in Mirvish Village, Spence Gallery is Toronto's pioneer gallery that provides art lovers an opportunity to keep an eye on art inspired by different cultures. Seeing a gap in the Toronto art scene, Joan Spence founded the gallery to share culturally diverse artistic expressions. During her travels she tries to find artists that merge cultural understanding with conceptual intention, realizing that culture influences art in various, and sometimes, unexpected ways.

Spence chooses all the works carefully always looking for high quality contemporary pieces that challenge traditional notions of art from the regions the gallery represent. She makes sure her gallery displays works in a range of prices to accommodate clients with various budgets.

Artists Participating in the Anniversary Exhibit:

Opal Dunbar-Adams' hauntingly beautiful figures withhold secrets the viewer must discover.

Michael Escoffery explores and pays homage to the female form and persona in his paintings.

Izzeldinn Kojour's paintings depict Sudanese lifestyle and culture through the combination of Arabic influences, Eastern flavours with African symbols and motifs.

Miranda Mafe interprets and illustrates Yoruba proverbs with witty scepticism.

Ivan Ortiz's abstract pieces provide a respite from the fast-paced life of modern existence.

Frank Ross mixed media pieces present everyday scenes from the townships of South Africa.

Marcelo Suaznabar takes the viewer into a world of magical realism set against the landscape of his native Bolivia.

Please join us for the 2nd Anniversary Exhibit running from June 15 to August 15, 2007. The public is welcome to the celebration on June 15th starting at 6:00 p.m. There will be a musical performance and refreshments will be served.
